Athletics

Our goal is for all students, families, community members, and visitors to have a safe and enjoyable experience.  Please review and note the following expectations for OSD athletic events:

• Excellent sportsmanship is expected for all spectators at all times. Oregon strives to be the model of excellent sportsmanship at all athletic events. The highest standard of conduct is expected for student-athletes, coaches and spectators at all times. We request your cooperation in being a role model and supporting all participants and officials in a positive manner.  
• Students in grades 8 and under must attend with an adult responsible for their attendance.  Students who are not accompanied by an adult will not be admitted to the event. Students are encouraged to bring their school student ID and may be asked to present it at the entrance gate.   
  • Grades 6 and under: students must be accompanied by and sit with a parent, guardian,  or adult responsible for their attendance (this includes before, during, and after the event). 
  • Grades 7-8:  Middle school students attending football games may sit with their supervising adult OR in the OMS section, located in the south end zone. OMS students are required to be seated during the game and display respectful and appropriate behavior at all times. 
• Any fan who leaves the stadium during the game will not be allowed to re-enter. This “no re-entry” practice helps reduce the possibility of outside issues or incidents impacting our sporting events.  
• Carry in bags and food / beverage items are not allowed. Students will not be allowed to enter the stadium with bags. Students who bring a bag must leave it at the front gate and can retrieve it upon departure. OSD is not responsible for bags or any contents, and all bags are subject to search. Our concession stand offers a variety of refreshments and food. Sales are used to support OSD athletic programs. 
• No drugs, alcohol, tobacco products (including vaping devices) or weapons are allowed anywhere on school grounds. This includes school buildings, sidewalks, athletic field areas, and parking lots.
• Items such as balls, bikes and skateboards are not permitted. These items become a safety hazard for spectators potentially being struck while watching an event or walking through the facility.

We appreciate the help of parents, guardians, and supervising adults to help ensure that all youth attending athletic events have sufficient supervision and are safe at our athletic events.

Effective in late May 2025, the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) implemented a new policy regarding Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for high school student-athletes. As a result, student-athletes in Wisconsin are now permitted to earn compensation for certain NIL endorsements, provided they comply with strict guidelines to preserve their amateur status. 

Key Points of the New NIL Policy:

• Amateurism Is Still Required
  • Students must maintain amateur status to remain eligible for competition. This means they cannot receive payment directly tied to athletic performance or for activities affiliated with their school, conference, or the WIAA.
• What Is Allowed
  • Students may now earn compensation through NIL opportunities as long as the activity:
    • Is not affiliated with their school, school team, athletic conference, or the WIAA.
    • Does not involve wearing the school uniform or using school logos.
    • Is not promoted by or in partnership with individuals affiliated with the school (e.g., coaches, teachers, alumni, boosters).
    • Does not promote prohibited products (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, gambling, adult content, firearms).
    • Does not involve performance-based pay or serve as an inducement to attend or remain at a school.
• Prohibited Activities
  • Student-athletes may not work with agents or representatives.
  • School employees and representatives may not facilitate or arrange NIL opportunities.
  • NIL activities must not interfere with academics or team responsibilities.
• NIL Contracts
  • Students may sign contracts related to NIL, provided they comply with the rules above. However, these contracts should be reviewed carefully, and legal guidance is recommended.

What This Means for Our Community

At Oregon High School, we are committed to supporting our student-athletes while complying with WIAA rules. It is important for families to understand that the school, including our coaches and teachers, cannot be involved in negotiating or facilitating NIL deals and cannot recommend specific opportunities.

We encourage all families and student-athletes to carefully review NIL opportunities and seek their own legal counsel if needed. The WIAA has also published helpful resources including an Infographic and NIL Compliance Chart that outline what is and is not allowed under the new NIL policy.  They have also updated the High School Athletic Eligibility Information Bulletin to include the new NIL language.

Parents or guardians are asked to certify personal transportation or arrange it with a non-OHS adult for the named student. It's important to note that deviating from the district's transportation requirement releases the Oregon School District from liability.
